I’m a freelance film critic, writer, event host and lecturer based in Glasgow. I mostly write reviews and features for The Scotsman and have been its chief film critic since 2005. I got my start working the red carpet beat for Empire Online and work across print, online and broadcast media, providing reviews, features, commentary and film industry analysis. You can often hear me talking about film on BBC Radio Scotland and I’m a member of the London Critics’ Circle.

An experienced event host, I’ve introduced screenings and chaired live Q&As and on-stage interviews with filmmakers, actors, writers and artists for organisations such as Glasgow Film, BAFTA, Picturehouse, Dogwoof, Curzon and Sonica. I’ve also lectured on film at The University of Glasgow, The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Glasgow Film Theatre, where I ran the contemporary cinema course for five years.

I’m currently open to new commissions, new projects, new events. Feel free to get in touch.
